What we collect, why we collect it, and how to get it removed.

Travel Koh Tao is a small independent travel guide run from Koh Tao, Thailand. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to answer your questions and send you the free guide.

What we collect

We only collect information you type in yourself. There are two places on this site where that happens.

The free guide signup

Your first name and your email address. We use them to send you the guide and, occasionally, an update when a major section of the site changes.

The contact form

Your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the message. We use them to reply to you and nothing else.

We do not ask for a phone number, a postal address, a date of birth, or any payment details. We never ask for payment details anywhere on this site.

What we never do

• We do not sell your data. Not to anyone, at any price.
• We do not rent, trade, or share your email list with other businesses.
• We do not build advertising profiles from your behaviour.
• We do not use your message content for anything other than replying to it.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 to see roughly how many people visit, which pages get read, and which countries readers come from. It loads only after you interact with the page, which keeps the site fast.

This tells us that a few hundred people read the ferry guide last week. It does not tell us who you are. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party trackers.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with the official browser add-on, or by blocking it in your browser settings.

Who else touches your data

A few services are involved in running the site. Each one only sees what it needs.

• Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site. Like any web host it processes your IP address and browser type to serve pages and block abuse. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
• Google Analytics receives anonymised usage statistics as described above.
• Our email provider stores the name and email address you give us so the guide can be sent and so you can unsubscribe.
• 12Go Asia is our transport booking partner. If you follow a booking link from this site, 12Go handles that booking under their own terms and privacy policy. We never see your booking or payment details. See our affiliate disclosure.

How long we keep it

Contact form messages are kept for as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted.

Email signups are kept until you unsubscribe. Every email we send has a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to do any of the following, free of charge.

• Tell you exactly what we hold about you.
• Send you a copy of it.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete all of it.
• Stop using it for anything, including email.

Readers in the UK and the EU have these rights under the GDPR. Readers in California have comparable rights under the CCPA. We apply the same standard to everyone regardless of where you are, because keeping two sets of rules would be silly.

Children

This site is written for adults planning a trip. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has sent us their details, email us and we will delete them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes get mentioned in the next email we send.
